As part of the launch campaign for the Mazda CX-80 Hybrid, Spaced created a sleek 56-second YouTube spot that stands apart from the feature-driven clips of the rest of the campaign. While the other spots explain driving modes or technology in detail, this one was planned to focus purely on cinematic movement and atmosphere: the CX-80 hybrid in motion, the effortless push-button start and elegant perspectives of the interior & exterior. No text, no narration, the spot distills the essence of Mazda’s design language into an emotional, mood-driven showcase. Elisabeth stands before the anatomical institute, ready to sell her future corpse for 150 marks—money she needs to buy a license to work. Ödön von Horváth’s play begins with this scene, depicting a rigid system that drives Elisabeth to suicide. Bonn Park’s continuation Faith Love Robot starts after her death, resurrecting her as a robot in a futuristic lab where scientists search for humanity’s survival. Occasionally, figures from Horváth’s world appear, revealing glimpses of a post-apocalyptic outside. Park’s play explores our relationship with the future: while Elisabeth once acted out of hope for change, today we are paralyzed by fears of war, AI, and climate collapse. Can we imagine a future beyond blind progress or inevitable dystopia?
