What does theatre look like in 2025? For the Münchner Volkstheater, the answer is clear: radical, contemporary, sensual and visually state-of-the-art.
We at Spaced Entertainment had the privilege of capturing the new season of this visionary institution on film. In close collaboration with the Volkstheater team, we developed creative trailers that don’t just inform, they immerse. Atmospheric, raw, and right at the emotional core of the stage.
FORM FOLLOWS FUNCTION AND FANTASY
The goal was to work within the current corporate identity of the Volkstheater while creating a cross-media visual language that unfolds consistently across trailers, social platforms, and print media. The result: a compact visual toolkit that serves not only as a style guide but as a visual manifesto - reduced, precise, clear - yet open to friction and fracture.
THEATRE TRAILER STAGING UNDER EXTREME CONDITIONS
The Theatre Trailer filming took place in a narrow window during the final stage rehearsals, a challenge, but also a gift. It allowed us to capture not just elaborate set designs and powerful special effects, but also unfiltered, intimate moments where theatre reveals itself in its purest, most focused form. We wanted to make this authenticity visible. And of course, today’s political climate doesn’t pass by unnoticed. The cast and crew feel it deeply and it’s their mission to evoke emotions, offer critique, and spark reflection.
PROVOCATION MEETS PRECISION
The visual language of the trailers follows the house’s current style: minimalist, modern, raw. But we didn’t stop there, we pushed it further with deliberate contrast: jarring cuts, near-triggering stimuli, surreal transitions, not to shock, but to draw attention. Our aim: to intrigue those with outdated notions of theatre. To invite them to read the outlines of the plays. And ideally? To grab a ticket and experience a new kind of interpretation live.
